The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the mysterious death of a 62-year-old businessman, Onyejekwe Izuchukwu, whose body was found in a hotel room in Ikoyi. Izuchukwu, a Texas-based businessman, had returned to Nigeria for business purposes when the tragedy occurred on June 9, 2024.

According to a source, Izuchukwu checked into the hotel on June 6 and was found dead on the floor of his room three days later by a cleaner. The hotel's management reported the incident to the police, and a doctor was called to confirm the death. The police have deposited Izuchukwu's body in a morgue in Ikeja for an autopsy.

Before his death, Izuchukwe had a distinguished career in the oil and gas industry, serving as President of Bits and Drilling Tools, a division of Schlumberger. He was known for leading the development of innovative drilling technologies designed to reduce costs and improve efficiency. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Izuchukwu's death, with the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirming that an investigation is underway.
