DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS FOILS TERRORIST ACTIVITIES, RESCUES HOSTAGES IN RECENT OPERATIONS

The Defence Headquarters of Nigeria has issued a strong warning to terrorists and bandits, declaring that their days are numbered as the military continues to thwart their activities in various operations conducted over the past week.

Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, the Defence Spokesman, emphasized that the military will persistently deny these criminals the ability to achieve their selfish objectives.

 

During these operations, a significant number of terrorists were eliminated, with 67 reported casualties, while 190 individuals were apprehended. Additionally, 47 kidnapped hostages were successfully rescued. The operations were carried out in the North West, North East, and North Central regions, resulting in substantial losses for the terrorists, insurgents, and violent extremists.

 

The military also recovered a substantial amount of weapons and ammunition during these operations. A total of 112 assorted weapons and 989 assorted ammunition were seized. The recovered ammunition included 342 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 321 rounds of 7.62mm special, 190 rounds of 7.62x51mm NATO, 34 rounds of 9mm, 74 live cartridges, 166 rounds of 7.62mm NATO empty shells, and 27 magazines.

 

In addition to the weapons and ammunition, various other items were recovered, including vehicles, motorcycles, mobile phones, radios, bicycles, cutlasses, axes, a digital camera, and a sum of N3.2 million.

 

Providing a breakdown of the operations, Maj.-Gen. Buba stated that in the North East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai neutralized 42 terrorists, apprehended 15 suspects, and rescued 10 kidnapped hostages. They also recovered 41 AK47 rifles, two locally fabricated rifles, ammunition, magazines, motorcycles, mobile phones, and other items.

 

In the North Central region, troops of Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke neutralized seven terrorists, arrested 23 suspects, and rescued 17 kidnapped hostages. Various caliber of arms and ammunition, as well as motorcycles and other items, were recovered during these operations.

 

Furthermore, in the North West, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji neutralized five terrorists, arrested four suspects, and rescued five kidnapped hostages. Similarly, troops of Operation Whirl Punch neutralized two terrorists, arrested seven suspects, and rescued two kidnapped hostages.
