ONS JABEUR EXPRESSES SOLIDARITY WITH PALESTINIANS AND PLEDGES DONATION AFTER WTA FINALS WIN

Tunisian tennis player Ons Jabeur has captured attention both on and off the court during the WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico. After avenging her Wimbledon final defeat, Jabeur expressed her emotions and announced her intention to donate part of her prize money to Palestinians.

Tunisia's Ons Jabeur, after avenging her Wimbledon final defeat to Marketa Vondrousova, expressed her emotions and announced her intention to donate part of her WTA Finals prize money to Palestinians. Jabeur, the only Arabic woman to reach a Grand Slam final, fought back tears as she spoke on court after earning her first win of the week at the season-ending championships in Cancun.

While expressing her happiness with the win, Jabeur also shared her unhappiness with the current state of the world. She specifically mentioned the Israel-Hamas conflict and the heartbreaking sight of children and babies dying every day. Overwhelmed by the situation, Jabeur made the decision to donate part of her prize money to help the Palestinians, emphasizing that it was not a political message but an act of humanity.

In her post-match press conference, Jabeur admitted that it had been challenging to focus on tennis due to the distressing images and videos she had come across on social media. She described the constant exposure to such content as affecting her sleep and recovery, leaving her feeling hopeless. Despite acknowledging that money alone may not solve the problems faced by Palestinians, Jabeur hoped that her donation could provide some assistance during their difficult times. She expressed her desire for freedom and peace for everyone.

Looking ahead, Jabeur faces a crucial match against world number two Iga Swiatek in the final round-robin play. To have any chance of qualifying for the semi-finals, Jabeur must secure a victory in this match.
