Atiku Abubakar Expresses Grave Concerns Over Rising Banditry and Terrorism in Nigeria

Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has voiced deep concerns regarding the surge in banditry and terrorism incidents across Nigeria.

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed grave concerns about the rising incidents of banditry and terrorism in the country.

Atiku conveyed his worries through a post on his social media handle on Tuesday, in response to reports of a Sunday attack by bandits on Yargoje village in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State. The attack resulted in the tragic loss of 20 lives.

In a statement released on Monday by its spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the Katsina Police Command confirmed the death toll, which included about 20 civilians, four police officers, and two operatives of the state-owned Community Watch Corps. The statement detailed how the bandits ambushed a police armoured personnel carrier that was responding to a distress call at Gidan Tofa and Dan Nakwabo villages, resulting in the loss of security personnel.

Expressing his reaction, Atiku lamented that banditry and terrorism attacks in the country have become all too frequent. He criticized the perceived helplessness and indifference of the government towards these killings, despite the significant annual budget allocated for defense.

Atiku highlighted the distressing aspect of the banditry and terrorism becoming routine, emphasizing the urgent need for effective governmental action to address the escalating security challenges.

Furthermore, Atiku urged the federal government to prioritize the protection of citizens’ lives and property. He extended his sympathy to the families of the victims and reiterated his call for the government to fulfill its duty of safeguarding the populace.

In his statement, Atiku reiterated the importance of the government being proactive in tackling insecurity and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens across the nation.
