PDP URGES MEMBERS TO STAY FOCUSED AMID MEDIA TRIAL ON GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION LITIGATION

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa state has called on its members to remain focused and disregard any media trial surrounding the ongoing litigation on the governorship election in the state.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa state has called on its members to remain focused and disregard any media trial regarding the ongoing litigation on the governorship election in the state. Alh. Ibrahim Hamza, the Nasarawa state Publicity Secretary of the PDP, issued a statement in Abuja advising party members to stay committed despite the intensified media campaign by the All Progressive Congress (APC) and its supporters following the recent judgment of the Nasarawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

The tribunal had declared Dr. David Ombugadu, the PDP candidate, as the winner of the governorship election and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue him a Certificate of Return. However, Governor Abdullahi Sule and the APC filed an appeal against the tribunal's decision.

Hamza expressed concern over the attempts by Governor Sule and his supporters to manipulate the outcome of the tribunal ruling to gain judicial sympathy ahead of their appeal. He also noted the increased media appearances by the Nasarawa state APC and some political appointees of Governor Sule, who were analyzing and interpreting the judgment to suit their own agenda.

In response to these developments, Dr. David Ombugadu, in consultation with the party leaders, advised PDP members and supporters to refrain from engaging with the APC in Nasarawa state. He urged them to remain focused and not be distracted, assuring them that their mandate is still secure under the rule of law.

Hamza mentioned a recent meeting with the Nasarawa state Director of State Security Service, where both the PDP and APC were advised to guide their supporters against using offensive language and insults. He stated that the PDP has been moderating the statements of its members and toning down their responses to avoid escalating tensions in the state.

While the PDP has respected the advice from the DSS, Hamza criticized the APC for resorting to insults instead of engaging in constructive public discourse. He pointed out that the APC has been discussing matters that are pending before the courts on media platforms, which undermines the integrity of legal proceedings and the principles of justice and peace.

Hamza emphasized the importance of upholding the rules and procedures of the legal system, which are designed to protect the rights of all parties involved and maintain impartiality. He reminded everyone that in a democracy, the courts play a critical role in adjudicating legal disputes and ensuring justice is served.
