ONGOING CLASHES DISPLACE THOUSANDS IN LEBANON AND GAZA, RESULTING IN HIGH CASUALTIES

Ongoing clashes between Iran-backed Hezbollah fighters and the Israeli army have led to a significant displacement of individuals in Lebanon, with nearly 29,000 people being affected, according to a United Nations agency.

According to a United Nations agency, nearly 29,000 individuals have been displaced in Lebanon due to ongoing clashes between Iran-backed Hezbollah fighters and the Israeli army. The International Organization for Migration reported that the majority of the displaced people are located in the southern part of the country. The number of displaced individuals has increased by 37 percent since October 23.

Some of those affected have sought refuge with relatives in other parts of Lebanon, while those who can afford it have been able to rent temporary apartments. However, due to Lebanon's severe economic crisis, which has pushed a large portion of the population into poverty, some displaced individuals are living in makeshift shelters in larger towns in the south.

In the cross-border exchanges of fire, at least 58 people have been killed in Lebanon. Most of the casualties were Hezbollah fighters, but there were also four civilians, including Reuters journalist Issam Abdallah.

On October 7, Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip entered Israel, resulting in the deaths of 1,400 people, primarily civilians, and the kidnapping of 229 individuals, according to Israeli officials. In response, Israeli air and artillery strikes in Gaza have caused the deaths of at least 7,326 people, including over 3,000 children, as reported by the health ministry in the Hamas-controlled territory.

The death toll in Gaza is the highest since Israel's withdrawal from the Palestinian territory in 2005.
