Chairman of FIRS Urges Indigenous Solutions to Africa's Fiscsl Challenges

In a recent African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) council meeting hosted by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in Lagos, the Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, called for a concerted effort among African nations to seek indigenous solutions to the continent's fiscal challenges.

Zacch Adedeji, the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), emphasized the importance of seeking indigenous solutions to Africa's fiscal challenges during the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) council meeting held in Lagos, hosted by FIRS. Adedeji urged his counterparts to prioritize ATAF's activities and rely on African solutions, emphasizing that local resource mobilization is key to addressing the continent's fiscal hurdles. He highlighted the need for practical solutions coming from those who understand the challenges firsthand, stating, "The problem of Africa can only be sincerely solved by Africans."

 

During the meeting, the impending end of ATAF's Executive Secretary's term in March 2025 was discussed, with Adedeji praising the Secretary's 16 years of service and stressing the importance of a smooth transition for the organization's sustainability. ATAF's vice chairman, Edward Kieswetter, underscored the role of technology and data in modern tax administration, reflecting a commitment from prominent tax leaders across Africa to advance taxation's role in African governance and state-building.
