EFCC Chairman Urges Leaders to Emulate Yar'adua's Ethical Leadership

Emulating the Ethical Legacy: EFCC Chairman's Call to Nigerian Leaders

Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), urged Nigerian leaders to emulate the leadership qualities of former President Umaru Musa Yar’adua, who passed away in 2010. Olukoyede emphasized Yar’adua's integrity and transparency as essential traits for effective leadership. He made these remarks during the first President Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Leadership Conference and Awards in Abuja.

Addressing the theme "Moral and Ethical Leadership; Antidote to National Development," Olukoyede highlighted the importance of integrity and ethics in leadership. He pointed out that while there are laws in place to uphold integrity, inadequate enforcement contributes to low ethical standards among many Nigerians. Olukoyede stressed that the EFCC identifies with Yar’adua's legacy of integrity and transparency, as these values align with the Commission's mandate.

Olukoyede affirmed the EFCC's commitment to enforcing its Establishment Act, emphasizing the agency's role in combating crimes related to integrity, such as embezzlement and bribery, in both the public and private sectors. He urged individuals to prioritize integrity in their actions to foster national development.

Former President Gen. Yakubu Gowon praised Yar’adua for his patriotism and dedication to the welfare of Nigerians. He recalled Yar’adua's concern for rural areas and his honesty in governance.

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, also speaking at the event, expressed gratitude to the organizers for honoring Yar’adua's legacy. He encouraged Nigerian leaders to remain steadfast in their commitment to moving the country forward and overcoming challenges.

In summary, the conference highlighted the importance of moral and ethical leadership in achieving national development, with speakers emphasizing the exemplary qualities demonstrated by President Umaru Musa Yar’adua during his tenure.
