Enyimba Raises Concerns Over Finidi's Appointment as Super Eagles Coach

The announcement of Finidi as the new coach for Nigeria's Super Eagles by the Nigeria Football Federation sparked headlines recently.

The Nigeria Football Federation made headlines earlier this week by announcing Finidi as the new coach for the Super Eagles. However, Enyimba, the club he successfully led to victory in the Nigeria Professional Football League last season, has raised concerns. They are urging the NFF to follow proper procedures before allowing Finidi to assume his new role.

While Enyimba expresses support for Finidi's aspiration to coach the national team, they insist on adherence to due process before his release. An Enyimba team official highlighted that the club was not formally informed by the NFF about Finidi's appointment. Consequently, they did not make any contingency plans for his replacement or interim coaching arrangements. The club discovered the news of Finidi's appointment through online sources, similar to the general public. As a result, they are currently engaged in discussions with the NFF regarding Finidi's release.

The official emphasized that while they support Finidi's career progression, they are adamant about ensuring that the proper protocols are followed. Given that Finidi still has one year remaining on his contract with Enyimba, discussions about his release must address contractual obligations. Additionally, Enyimba's active participation in the league title race further underscores the need for smooth negotiations.

In response to Enyimba's stance, an NFF source acknowledged the club's concerns without directly refuting them. The source explained that the NFF chose not to inform Enyimba beforehand to maintain confidentiality until the official announcement. Despite this, ongoing discussions between the NFF and Enyimba are reportedly progressing positively, with hopes of reaching a compromise soon.
