The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has expressed its condolences and sympathy to the victims affected by a tragic fire incident in the Aleto Eleme section of the East-West road in Rivers State, Nigeria.

The 7th Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has expressed its deepest condolences and sympathy to the victims affected by the Eleme fire incident. The tragic event occurred on Friday night in the Aleto Eleme section of the East-West road in Rivers State, resulting in significant loss of lives and property worth billions of naira.

Chief Tony Okocha, representing Rivers State on the NDDC Board, conveyed the Commission's condolences during a Media Briefing held at the Rivers State NDDC Office in Port Harcourt. He extended heartfelt sympathies to those affected by the tragedy and offered prayers for the swift recovery of the injured. Additionally, Okocha assured that the NDDC would extend necessary assistance to alleviate the suffering of the victims.

In his capacity as a spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha urged caution among truck drivers using the route affected by the incident. He emphasized the importance of driving safely, especially considering the ongoing construction work on the road.

Furthermore, Okocha took the opportunity to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, for the quality and standard of the ongoing reconstruction work on the East-West road. The incident, which claimed numerous lives and caused extensive damage, has reignited calls for the swift completion of the road's reconstruction, a project that has stretched over sixteen years since its inception during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
