Tragedy at Lagos Petrol Station: Young Man Shot Dead Amid Fuel Queue Altercation

A fatal altercation at a petrol station in Lagos has left the family of Toheeb Eniafe grieving and residents in shock.

The family of Toheeb Eniafe is in mourning following his tragic death at a petrol station belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State. The incident occurred late on Wednesday, leaving residents in the area shocked and fearful. Eyewitnesses reported that Eniafe was shot while waiting in line to purchase petrol after an altercation with two men believed to be military officers who attempted to bypass the queue.
Eniafe had confronted the men, insisting that they join the queue like everyone else. The situation escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in Eniafe being shot and fatally wounded. The assailants fled the scene, leaving Eniafe lying on the ground.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents, who are grappling with fuel scarcity and its associated challenges. Eyewitnesses identified the men as officers from the Department of State Services (DSS), alleging that they often disregard queues and expect preferential treatment.
Efforts to reach the station's branch manager for comment were unsuccessful. However, a staff member revealed that military personnel and veterans are often given priority during fuel purchases, which may have contributed to the altercation.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer stated that Eniafe was killed, and two vehicles were set on fire. Investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators.
In response to allegations implicating DSS officers, the agency's spokesperson denied any involvement in the shooting, urging further investigation to uncover the truth.
The tragic incident underscores the tensions and challenges faced by Nigerians amid fuel scarcity, highlighting the need for improved security measures and adherence to queue protocols at petrol stations.
