Senator Elisha Abbo has alleged that Senate President Godswill Akpabio conspired to have him removed by the Court of Appeal. Abbo made these claims at his residence in Abuja, shortly after the Court of Appeal nullified his election into the Senate. According to Abbo, Akpabio also plans to remove Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and four other senators who did not support his bid for the senate presidency. Abbo described the court's decision to sack him as a blow to democracy but called on his supporters to remain steadfast.

Despite the court ruling in favor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Amos Yohanna, Abbo insisted that he was the true winner of the February election, defeating Yohanna by a margin of 11,000 votes. The Court of Appeal in Abuja had earlier today overturned the tribunal's judgment that affirmed Abbo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the valid winner of the senatorial seat. The court held that there was merit in the appeal filed by the PDP candidate, Amos Yohanna.

Senator Abbo, whose re-election bid was thwarted by the court's verdict, gained notoriety in 2019 after he assaulted a woman, Ms. Osimibibra Warmate, in a sex toy shop in Abuja. As a result, a Federal Capital Territory High Court ordered Abbo to pay N50 million in damages to the victim, a decision that was later upheld by an appellate court panel led by Justice Jamilu Tukur.

Despite confirming his removal from the legislative house in a Facebook post, Abbo urged his supporters and constituents to remain calm in the face of these developments.
