Former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof Kingsley Moghalu, has expressed his stance on government officials driving imported vehicles if he were to become the president of Nigeria. Moghalu emphasized that Nigerian politicians should invest in and support local alternatives instead of relying on foreign-made vehicles. He made this statement in a post on his social media account, following the assurance given by the House of Representatives that members of the 10th National Assembly would soon receive vehicles to facilitate their work.

Akin Rotimi, the Chairman of the House Committee of Media and Public Affairs, had stated that the vehicles provided to the members of the 10th Assembly would remain the property of the National Assembly even after their tenure ends in 2027, as per the government's existing asset disposal policy. However, Moghalu, in his social media post, highlighted the importance of patriotic leadership and the need to reduce the cost of governance.

Moghalu firmly stated that if he were to hold the position of President of Nigeria or Governor of a State, no government official would be allowed to drive a foreign-made vehicle at the expense of the government. He emphasized the significance of supporting local industries and alternatives, promoting a sense of patriotism and commitment to cutting down on the expenses of governance. It is worth noting that Moghalu was the presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the 2019 general election.
