Gas Cylinder Explosion Causes Property Damage and Injuries in Ajegunle-Apapa, Lagos

A devastating incident rocked Alaba Lane, Alayabiagba Community of Ajegunle-Apapa, Lagos, on Tuesday, resulting in widespread destruction due to a gas cylinder explosion.

A significant incident occurred on Tuesday at Alaba Lane, Alayabiagba Community of Ajegunle-Apapa, Lagos, where several properties were destroyed following an explosion of gas cylinders. Among the casualties were at least four commercial tricycles, six lock-up shops, and a bungalow.

Fortunately, prompt intervention from the Federal Fire Service and Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service prevented further damage to adjoining structures, including a major fuel service station. The explosion, which took place around 12:39 pm, was brought under control through the collaborative efforts of both federal and state fire services.

Mrs. Magaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, disclosed that preliminary investigations indicated that the explosion originated from a gas cylinder triggered by a suspected leakage. This led to the snapping of a high-tension cable and subsequent fire outbreak.

The incident was swiftly contained by firefighters from Ajegunle and Sari-Iganmu Fire Stations, with support from the Federal Fire Service. Despite their efforts, the aftermath saw significant damage, with four commercial tricycles, six lock-up shops, and a bungalow among the properties razed down.

Unfortunately, nine individuals, including a pregnant woman, children, and adults of both genders, sustained varying degrees of burn injuries. They are currently receiving treatment at the Ajeromi General Hospital and Gbagada Burnt & Trauma Centre after receiving initial first aid from the Lagos State Ambulance Service.
