The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the results for the 2023 Internal Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE). According to the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, 61.60 percent of the candidates achieved the required five credits, including English and Mathematics. This is a significant milestone for the candidates and reflects their academic performance.

However, NECO also revealed that 93 schools were found to be involved in whole-school (mass) cheating during the examination. Additionally, 52 supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision and aiding and abetting during the examination process. These findings highlight the importance of maintaining integrity and ensuring fair conduct during examinations.

Professor Wushishi stated that the erring schools will be summoned to the Council for discussions, following which appropriate sanctions will be applied. It is crucial to address any form of malpractice to uphold the credibility and standards of the examination system.

In terms of the candidates, a total of 1,196,985 students took part in the examinations, with 616,398 males and 580,587 females. Additionally, 1,543 candidates with special needs, including those with hearing impairment, visual impairment, albinism, autism, low vision, and adermatoglyphia (no fingerprints), also participated in the examinations. This inclusivity demonstrates the commitment to providing equal opportunities for all students.

The statistics further revealed that 737,308 candidates, representing 61.60 percent, passed with five credits and above, while 1,013,611 candidates, representing 84.68 percent, obtained five credits irrespective of English and Mathematics. These results showcase the hard work and dedication of the candidates and their ability to meet the academic requirements.

The release of the NECO SSCE results marks an important milestone for the candidates and serves as a testament to their academic achievements. It is essential to address any instances of malpractice and ensure fairness in the examination process to maintain the integrity of the education system.
