President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive from Abuja following the tragic killing of soldiers in Okuoma, Delta State, instructing the Chief of Defence Staff to take decisive action in identifying and punishing those responsible.

In a directive issued from Abuja, President Bola Tinubu has instructed the Chief of Defence Staff to take decisive action in identifying and punishing those responsible for the brutal murder of soldiers in Okuoma, Delta State. Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, President Tinubu extended condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the fallen heroes.

 

The President, in a statement personally signed on Sunday, condemned the unprovoked killing of military personnel during a peacekeeping mission in Okuoma Community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State. The tragic event occurred on Thursday, March 14th, 2024, when troops responding to a crisis between Okuama and Okoloba communities were ambushed, resulting in the loss of lives of a Commanding Officer, two Majors, one Captain, twelve soldiers, and one civilian.

 

President Tinubu reiterated the nation's collective grief and mourning for the fallen soldiers, emphasizing their sacrifice and bravery in service to the country. He assured that the military high command is actively addressing the incident and pledged that those responsible for the heinous crime would face justice.

 

Acknowledging the inherent dangers faced by servicemen and women, President Tinubu commended their heroism, courage, and patriotism. He stressed the importance of honoring their memory and vowed to uphold the nation's commitment to peace and security.

 

The President affirmed the centrality of the armed forces to national unity and condemned any attack against them as an assault on the nation itself. He granted full authority to the Defence Headquarters and Chief of Defence Staff to ensure swift and thorough investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators.

 

President Tinubu concluded by reaffirming the government's unwavering determination to achieve peace and tranquility across Nigeria, while invoking divine blessings and protection for the Federal Republic and its armed forces.
