Chief Edwin Clark, leader of the Ijaw Nation, has urged President Bola Tinubu not to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, who allegedly marginalized the Igbo community during his tenure. Clark, in a letter addressed to Tinubu and shared with the press on Thursday, highlighted Buhari's exclusion of the South-East from major appointments and unequal allocation of funds to the region.

Expressing concern over perceived similarities in Tinubu's approach, Clark called on him to reconsider his actions. He emphasized the need for equitable treatment of all ethnic groups in Nigeria, urging Tinubu to avoid replicating past injustices against the Igbo community.

Clark cited examples of Buhari's alleged marginalization of the Igbo, such as the composition of the NNPC board, where the South-East was reportedly underrepresented. He also referenced Buhari's handling of loans and the distribution of security chiefs, which he claimed disadvantaged the South-East.

Drawing parallels to Tinubu's administration, Clark asserted that discrimination against the Igbo community persists. He criticized the appointment of ministers from the South-West compared to those from the South-East, highlighting what he perceived as an imbalance in representation.

Calling for immediate action, Clark urged Tinubu to prioritize the restructuring of Nigeria and implement the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference Report. He stressed the importance of addressing historical grievances and promoting equitable development across all regions of the country.

In conclusion, Clark called on the Igbo community to assert their rights peacefully and democratically, advocating for fair treatment and inclusion in the nation's affairs. He emphasized the need for unity and collective action to address longstanding issues of marginalization and inequality.
